In 1980, Tom Selleck joined the cast of the CBS crime drama series “Magnum, PI,” in which he played the lead role of private detective Thomas Magnum, appearing in more than 160 episodes over eight seasons lasting until 1988; it not only earned him worldwide recognition, but also an Emmy Award.
