Early life and family
Family
Joshua ‘Bam Bam’ Brown was born on September 18, 1984 in Alaska, USA, the second child of Billy Byrom and Amora ‘Ami’ Brown. While the first impression of his nickname may make it seem strange and impractical, this is a common theme among the seven brown children. Bam Bam has four brothers – Matthew ‘Matt’ Jeremiah, Solomon Isaiah Freedom Bear, Gabriel ‘Gabe’ Starbuck and Noah ‘Darkcloud’ – as well as two sisters, Amora Jean Snowbird and Merry Christmas Kathryn Raindrop ‘Rain’.
The family is not exactly of the purest lineage, both parents have criminal records – Billy for horse theft in 1980 and Ami with a criminal record for benefit fraud.
Interests and youth
Bam Bam was raised on the family fishing boat, who harbored a deep love for the water and the boats in him. He was taught how to survive in the wild from his parents and older brother, and he soon became very adept at electronics and survival tasks. Brown loved to read and often sought the solitude of his favorite tree to curl up and read a book.
His unconventional childhood allowed him to become a freethinker, expressing his creativity through his love of photography.
Education
Very little is known about Bam Bam’s formal education – if he had any. While he may not have received conventional training, he remains highly skilled in other areas – the bush and boats – and can lead an independent life.
Career
“Alaskan Bush People”
The History Channel’s scripted docudrama, “Alaskan Bush People”, premiered on May 6, 2014 when Bam Bam was 30 years old.
The series follows the life and skills of the Brown family who live in the bush, supposedly far from civilization and basic amenities. Over the years, almost every aspect of the show has been attacked, from revelations about the true location and proximity of civilization to the actual nationality of the Brown Family. Despite this, the show is more than moderately successful.
Legal problems
All Alaska residents receive an allowance from the state, a portion of the profits from state oil extraction.
This, of course, leads people to forge their residency permits to take advantage of the state, which is exactly what the Brown family was accused of on October 3, 2014. The entire family, except Rain who was too young at the time, and Matt who were out of state, were charged with first and second degree theft and all received prison terms. The family claimed to be shocked by the allegations, claiming it was due to the fact that living off the land doesn’t really require much documentation.
After much negotiation, the Brown family was able to negotiate a plea deal that would see only Billy Byron and Bam Bam fall. They were able to settle the case with over $2,100 in restitution, 30 days of house arrest, and a host of relatively small fines.
Private life
Bam Bam Brown moved from his family in 2017. The year before, he was in a relationship with one of the show’s producers, Allison “Alli” Kagan, which sparked a conflict between him and his parents. It is speculated that Brown left the family because he didn’t like how his parents treated his girlfriend.

Although the two left, Bam Bam couldn’t escape his roots and the two bought and renovated a boat on which they now live together.
Appearance
Bam Bam has long blond hair that falls all the way below his shoulders. Combine this with a neat beard, brown eyes and round glasses and you have Bam Bam Brown. He is tall and well built from years of working for his survival in the bush. He is 1.73 m tall and weighs 75 kg.
Net value
Joshua Bam Bam Brown’s sole source of income appears to be the “Alaskan Bush People,” but that’s not to say he hasn’t made a name for himself. Due to the show’s hefty salary, Bam Bam has accrued an estimated net worth of $300,000 in mid-2020 – impressive, especially for someone who has spent much of his life off the land.
