Diana Danelys de Los Santos, better known by her stage as Amara La Negra, was born on October 4, 1990, in Miami, Florida, to the son of Ana Maria Oleaga, a single mother. From the Dominican Republic, Amara’s mother had emigrated to the United States. She supported her daughter by holding five jobs.
Amara graduated from high school and enrolled in college. She initially chose to study mortuary science, but then switched to business administration and later dropped out to focus on her music career. She experienced many prejudices as a child because of her skin color.
