Dave Dahl was born on January 12, 1963 in the United States of America, in Portland, Oregon. When he was nine years old, he started working at the family bakery. His father, James A. Dahl, founded the family bakery in 1955. As a child, he fought with his father because he did not like working in the family bakery. As a result, he started smoking cigarettes and taking drugs in his teens. He dropped out of high school in 1980. Glenn is his brother’s name.

Career
When he was nine years old, he started working in his family’s bakery. Later he fought with his father because he didn’t like working there and started smoking and taking drugs.
In 1987, he was first sentenced to prison for breaking and entering a house. He returned to his father’s family bakery business in 1989, after taking a job offer from Glenn (his brother), before quitting again and moving to Massachusetts. He spent more time in jail for armed robbery at this location. Later, in 1997, he was arrested again in Portland, Oregon.
Later in life, he was assigned to a vocational training program (in computer-aided drafting and design) and an honors drug treatment program. He started teaching other inmates after excelling in this course. He was released from prison on December 27, 2004, and joined his brother in the family bakery business for the third time.
While working in the bakery, he and his brother came up with the idea for Dave’s Killer Bread, a cornmeal crust bread. After the brand’s success at the local farmers’ market, more stores started selling the product. In 2013, the company employed approximately 300 people at its headquarters in Milwaukee, Oregon. Flowers Foods bought the company in August 2015 for approximately USD 275 million.
In the year 2016, Dave founded the Discover African Art organization. He opened a flagship showroom and boutique in Portland’s Pearl District for this organization in Clackamas, Oregon. In June 2017, the organization contributed to grain shipments to a village in Mali.
Dave’s girlfriend Harsh called the police in late 2013 to report that he was having a mental health crisis. When the officers arrived, he fought with them as they arrested him and sent three officers to the hospital. He was found guilty in the month of October of 2014 after being diagnosed with bipolar disorder. In January 2015, he was released on conditions under the supervision of the board, including a ban on visiting bars and driving.
