If you’ve been wondering why your Fitbit Charge 5 isn’t syncing on Tuesday, you’re not alone. Frustrated Charge 5 owners have taken to reddit and Twitter to report that their fitness trackers are simply not syncing in what appears to be a widespread outage. It’s the latest in a string of complaints this summer after slow Ionic recalls and screwed up blood oxygen charts for Android users.
The edge was able to confirm that at least two of our Charge 5 devices failed to sync on both Android and iOS despite multiple efforts. We were last able to sync a device at 10:39 PM ET on Monday night. Unpairing and repairing the Charge 5 and forcing the Fitbit app to close did not resolve the issue.
Around 4:45 PM ET, the Fitbit Support account tweeted that the issue has been resolved and that we were able to successfully sync a Charge 5 again.

According to Down detector, it appears users have been complaining about Fitbit outages late last night, with reports picking up steam around 6 a.m. ET this morning. Multiple users have also reported the issue to the official Twitter accounts @Fitbit and @FitbitSupport. Most of the reports seem to be about the Charge 5, but a few users have also complained about syncing issues with other devices. Fitbit has responded to individual complaints on its official channels, and confirmed in a tweet that it was investigating the matter. The edge contacted Fitbit for comment, but did not immediately receive a response.

The outage is the latest in a series of customer frustrations this summer. Since Fitbit’s Ionic smartwatch was recalled in March after burning 78 users, multiple Ionic owners have complained that the company dragged his feet when issuing refunds. The edge has also independently received three tips from readers who confirm problems receiving help from Fitbit with returning their Ionic devices.
More recently, Android users have been complaining about an app update breaking the graph of the estimated oxygen variation. The graph shows how the oxygen level in the blood can change during sleep. After the update, it appears that several users saw a dramatic and sudden increase in their nighttime oxygen variations, leading to: widespread confusion. The problem seems to have been resolved in the Android app 3.65 version update.
All of this comes as Fitbit gears up for a busy fall. There have been several recent leaks surrounding the Sense 2 and Versa 4 smartwatches, suggesting that we may see some hardware news from the company soon. Fitbit is also expected to be largely present in the launch of the Pixel Watch. While Google hasn’t revealed too many specs or details about the Pixel Watch, it did highlight an upcoming Fitbit integration as one of the watch’s main selling points at this year’s Google I/O.
